 today in foods we made truffles and it was really good our team worked together and the truffles had coconut, Dried aprocots, Dried cranberries, cocoa powder, icing sugar, butter and crushed wine biscuits they took half an hour to set first we crushed up the wine biscuits the we creamed the butter then added the icing sugar we cut up the dried apricots and cranberries then added them to the mixture

Health 5 Second Rule

 Kia ora, so in Health we were set a task the required us to learn about vaping and teach others about vaping. Firstly, we had a question that we were given to answer about vaping, from there we had to talk about it in the whole class and with Miss Aitken. We decided to make a game, our game is the five-second rule game. The topic we were doing was about vaping and, the game included questions about vaping and what you should do if you want to stop, why people vape and what happens if you actually vape. Firstly we had to decide on which of the big six questions were going to do to help with our game. Our questions were, When and Why did Vaping become an issue in New Zealand? From there we decided on our game and came up with questions for the game. We choose to create this game because we thought it would be a good game to play with friends and family. We learnt that these strategies are helpful to use if, you are working in a group and want to stop smoking or vaping. It was challenging when we had to find/ reword the rules because some of the rules didn’t make sense. I coped with the challenge of this by asking my teammates for help. Next time I will talk to my teammates about what we could've done more or when could've made more changes to the board game. So thank you for reading my blog.

House plan

 Hello everyone for this whole term we have been learning bout ohm’s law for most of it we made a house plan. We aimed to learn about ohm’s law. We also learnt voltage and current and resistance. Voltage is an electromotive force or potential difference expressed in volts. Current is a flow of electricity that results from the ordered directional movement of electrically charged particles. Resistance means the degree to which a substance or device opposes the passage of an electric current causing energy dissipation.

My path 1s current is 4amps My path 2s current is 2.67amps My 3 paths current is 4amps and my total current is 10.67amps. I don't have area calculations because I was away.

Conclusion: I enjoyed the project because I learnt about voltage current and resistance and I wouldn’t change anything about it if I was to choose a different house plan I would choose house plan B and the bulbs I would choose 10 bulbs.

Eye Dissection

 Today in Bio I am to be going to tell you about the Eye and how it works and what each part does.

• Cornea. The Cornea is a clear layer of tissue which is in front of the eye the tissue layer helps the eye to focus on the light.
• Tear ducts. Is the openings to the tear ducts are located in the upper and lower eyelids at the inner corner of each eye.
• Iris. The coloured part of the eye is the iris. It is a set of muscles that control the pupil which is the opening in the middle of the eye. The iris controls the amount of light coming in through the pupil.
• The Lens. The lens is behind the pupil. It focuses light onto the retina, the light-sensitive cells on the back of the eyeball.
• The Retina. The Retina converts images into electrical signals that are sent to the optic nerve.
• The Optic nerve. The optic nerve is a thick bundle of nerve fibres attached to the back of the eye. It transmits visual information from the retina to the brain.
• The Refractive errors. When light isn’t focused properly, it causes blurry vision. Glasses, contacts, or surgery can usually correct refractive errors, which include.

We all have been looking, Hornby 2050 and what can make it a better place in those years. We are making a project, our project is a self-powered blender for our kete, and the reason we are making a self-powered blender is that we can save electricity instead of paying bills. If there is a power cut out, how are you meant to use the blender so that's why we are making a self-powered blender we can save electricity and some countries are struggling like Mozambique is struggling with low power, and basically no water to survive on. We need wood, a pump, metal, plastic, a bit of tubing, to make a full-sized blender.

Chromeatography

Today in science we are doing an experiment called chromatography  Pigments are substances that give color to things. They are used to give color to all sorts of things like felts, paint, plastic, food, fabric, even animals and plants.

Chromatography is a technique for separating a mixture by passing it in solution or suspension through a medium in which the components move at different rates 

Pigment: the natural coloring matter of animal or plant tissue. 

AIM- To separate the different pigments from ink using chromatography

HYPOTHESIS- I think that the paper will change color and their ink will go high on the paper

EQUIPMENT- Felt tip pen, filter paper strips, test tube, measuring cylinder, pencil.

1- Draw a line across the filter paper in pencil, 5cm from the bottom.

2- Draw a colored dot in the center of the line.

3- Measure out 10mL of water and place it in the test tube.

4- Place the filter paper in the test tube and fold it over the side. MAKE SURE THE PENCIL LINE/ DOT IS NOT IN THE WATER.

The pigments separate because each pigment has a different solubility (some dissolve more than others), which means some of them to move faster and further than others.

Evaporation

 today in chemistry we are learning about evaporation distillation and condensation we are going to be doing an experiment next lesson and for the experiment, we are going to distillation and how it works

"What is Evaporation"

Evaporation is when a substance gets heated up and turns from a liquid into a gas 

"What is Condensation"

turning gas into a liquid by cooling it down

Evaporation is when a liquid turns into a gas. 

We can separate a solution, by evaporating away the solvent to leave a solute (solid).

But what if we want to collect gas?? 

When we trap the gas and turn it back into a liquid this is called condensation.

"What is Distillation"

Distillation is the scientific experiment used to show the processes of evaporation and condensation.  

Note: on the next slide it says to use seawater but we are going to use different types of coke. After evaporating off and then condensing back down the water, we can see how much sugar is actually in normal coke/ diet/ zero.

hypothesis: I think the original coke will have a lot of sugar I think all the liquid will evaporate the other cokes will only half evaporate

Conclusion: the normal coke had a lot more sugar than the sugar-free coke

Discussion: for evaporating we turned a liquid into a gas using heat the coke had more sugar bc I read the back of the bottle and the coke a 14 grams of sugar than the sugar-free coke had no sugar.

Concentration and Dilution

 In today's blog, we are doing an experiment about Concentration and Dilution in this period.

Concentration is a measure of how much solute has been dissolved into the solvent in other words- how much solute there is in the solution we can measure in two ways how to dilute something is (how weak it is) how concentration something is (how strong it is) Making something less concentrated There will be fewer particles in the liquid Serial dilute

AIM: To make a dilution series to investigate the concentration 

HYPOTHISSES: I think that it will go clear 

EQUIPMENT: A potassium permanganate crystal, six large test tubes, tweezers, a plastic transfer, pipette, a test tube rack, 10ml measuring cylinder 

METHOD: 

OBSERVATION: it changed color into different purples 

DISCUSSION: when we put the chemical in the first test-tube it went dark purple and in the other test tube went lighter.

 Today in science we are doing a little experiment about filtering I will tell you about what we are going to do. (Filtering is separating differently sized particles out of a mixture.) the things that we will need to do in this experiment are making a mixture then separate it. today's experiment will be on liquids that we will be separating

Method: 

1. Pour approximately 50mL of copper sulfate solution into a beaker.

2. Add the same volume of sodium carbonate solution. A reaction will happen, you should see a cloudy blue precipitate form. Called copper carbonate. 

3. Watch demo then fold filter paper to fit inside the funnel

4. Place the funnel with the filter paper inside of it, into the mouth of a conical flask. 

5. Stir the mixture in the beaker, then carefully pour it into the funnel. 

6. Observe what happened.

the liquids changed colour when the liquid filterd through and it changed colour when the liquids came together In conclusion, I saw when we mixed the two chemicals together they went a darker blue and cloudy, when we put it through the filter it turned clear the blue got let at the top.

1. Cut a long piece of string to hang the bird feeder.
2. Take the string and tie a knot around the pine cone near the top (the stalk end).
3. Using a butter knife, create an equal mix of smooth peanut butter and lard in a bowl.
4. Use the butter knife to spread the mixture inside the pine cone and around the edges.
5. Hold the pine cone over the plate and sprinkle birdseed over it. Roll it in any remaining birdseed.
6. Hang it from a tree or hook out of the reach of cats.

Can everyone get arthritis:

People of all ages, sexes, and races can and do have arthritis, and it is the leading cause of disability in America. More than 50 million adults and 300,000 children have some type of arthritis. It is most common among women and occurs more frequently as people get older.

What are the two most common types of arthritis

The two main types of arthritis — osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis — damage joints in different ways.

 What is the best way to prevent arthritis:

1. Stay at a healthy weight. Extra pounds put pressure on weight-bearing joints like hips and knees. 
2. Control your blood sugar. 
3. Exercise. 
4. Stretch. 
5. Avoid injury. 
6. Quit smoking.

How was arthritis treated:
