If foods are frozen at the peak of their quality, they emerge tasting better than foods frozen near the end of their freshness. So freeze items you won't use in the near future.

Able Tasman was the second explorer to arrive in Aotearoa.

The name of the chief navigator helping the explorers is Tupaea. Bringing with im pigs, rats diseases.

A musk is a type of gun that the Europeans use to fight of the Maori solders.

The musk war ended in 1830

The ratio of the Maori to Pakeha in Aotearoa in 1840 was 40 to 1 to the Maori.

Tangata Whenua


For the past 2 weeks on who are we hurumanu learning about Tangata Whenua and how the Maori came to New Zealand



  1. Where did the Maori people arrive from?

            Eastern Polynesia they came from Fiji, Samoa, Cook Island, Tonga

  1. How did they arrive in NZ? 

           They arrived on a Waka 


  1. What did they bring to Aotearoa?
              Dogs Rats and kumara and Crops or the moari´s diet

  1. How did they get food?

          They hunted the moa to get food and they did not know that the moa`s lay eggs once a year 

  1. Write 3 sentences about the Moriori people

They settled on the Chatham islands
They were passive
And they were Maori


  1. How did they prove that Māori and Moriori descended from the same people?

They checked out skeletons and DNA


  1. Explain how the Moa came to be extinct

They only laid one egg a year and the rats ate the eggs. Maori thought Moa would be like hens and lay lots of eggs.

They could grow and catch food there, get water and keep warm.
